After 6 months in the field how does the Leupold VX3-HD perform?

Fantastically simple to use, the Leupold VX3-HD Scope is the choice of professional deer stalker, Chris Dalton – and that’s his genuine opinion!

With over 30 years of active engagement in deer management and having held his title of UK Professional Stalker of the Year since 2019 Chris Dalton’s endorsement of the Leupold VX3-HD Scope should not be taken lightly.

The team at Viking Arms gave Chris Dalton the Leupold VX3-HD riflescope to field test over a 6-month period. His initial thoughts on the scope were positive, especially with how it looked and felt. It is a lightweight, but tough scope that includes customization through its  CDS ZeroLock dial.

Being a Yorkshireman living in Scotland, what you see is what you get. Chris saw the capabilities of the scope and experienced them firsthand in both the Scottish Highlands and lowlands stalking roe deer. The Elite Optical System provides hunters and shooters with a brilliant dawn to dusk light transmission and reduced glare, increased image brightness, that excel its clarity. Its high-definition lenses provide users with great clarity, colour and image quality which is extended through to the edge of the user’s field of view. The military standard scratch resistant lenses created with hardened surface coatings providing further clarity.

The riflescopes ultra-lightweight construction provides an advantage for shooters with its design, providing the ability to disperse recoil energy. Leupold’s removable throw lever enhances the scopes performance more as the low-profile throw lever supports quick and easy magnification changing also including a thread protector plug for when the throw lever is removed.

Utilising internal gasses and sealing methods Leupold pioneered a scope that can endure extreme temperatures, elevation change, shocks and resists moisture. Leupold VX3-HD riflescope is waterproof, fogproof, shockproof, and its guard-ion hydrophobic lens coating allows for a maintenance-free scope that supports a clear and crisp image.

After a 6-month trial with the deer stalking legend, Chris Dalton at Ayrshire Stalking, the Leupold VX3-HD Scope has lived up to its expectations. Chris has given the scope two thumbs up for its price, quality, performance and the multitude of features that make it an incredibly tough yet lightweight piece of equipment especially for stalking. Although it is not a dedicated long range optic the CDS will allow for any extreme shot taken in the field.
