Drop Gear Episode 4 Part 3: Rifles with open sights, the Wales trip

In this instalment of Drop Gear, Andrew Venables from WMS Firearms Training takes us on a 1.0.1 course of open sights, something only a true hunter can appreciate, and I suppose if you’re reading this you are or soon will be.

There are currently a wide range of firearms on the market with open sights, starting at base level with the Ruger 10/22 a rifle that looks right, feels right, shoots right and continues to perform under heavy use. RRP from £465.

Then moving up the ladder for the more avid hunters there are the Henry rifles, traditionally including an underlever the Henry’s have an element of class that is proven in both looks and performance. RRP from £480.

Finally the best of the best are the Merkel rifles, especially the elegant K5 single-shot range all of which offer open sights at times when needed.

As Andrew Venables states, it’s important to understand open sights and appreciate them for when more advanced equipment breaks, or you forget the key needed to mount it (we have all been there).

Not only does it improve your skills as a huntsman but it adds value to your experience, making you the more advanced sportsman – now who doesn’t want that?

So, for now, sit back, relax and enjoy this last part to the Drop Gear Welsh trip. Enjoyed this? Check out our channel, Viking TV:
