Viking Arms hosted a demonstration at West London Shooting School featuring some of the world's best brands including Leupold, Lapua and the exciting new Haenel Jaeger NXT Rifle which is out now.

We are currently in the glorious era where hunting is also a sustainable and environmentally friendly hobby, so why not extend our respect and love for the places we hunt into the weapons we use? This was the exact thought process behind the Haenel Jaeger NXT, it is the next generation hunting rifle and is a rifle that is almost as sustainable as our forests. Utilising light birch, a sustainable timber, for the build of the stock of this rifle saves the felling of ancient walnut trees and is equally as beautiful and lightweight.

The FSC wood compound stock allows for the same robustness as a plastic shaft, with the brilliant look, feel and sustainability of the wood shaft. Every plastic part of the rifle is replaced with a non-inferior sustainable resin-cellulose composite material, 100% Bio and 0% Petroleum. Even the barrel in this NXT rifle is genuinely Green, it is specially made and optimised for lead-free ammunition specific to the calibre .308 Win and .30-06 calibres, however Spring Lead ammunition can still be used if needed. It is a well-balanced rifle that has come into the market at a very competitive rate of about £2,000.

Ever heard of the perfect scope for deer stalking? We have… a couple of them. Straight from the Leupold Head Office itself, John went through the best of the best in terms of Leupold scopes specially for UK deer stalking at the West London Shooting School.

The VX-5HD with the 3-15x56-millimetre objective has some fantastic features that will make your deer stalking missions a success every time. The illuminated reticle is a nice fine reticle designed and manufactured for the purpose of stalking roebucks, fallow and any other type of deer. With its wide versatile range magnification power, the scope has a three power as its lowest which allows a wide field of view all the way up to 15 power to aid in those longer distance shots. The uniqueness of this scope comes from the CDS ZL2 turret, this is a Leupold special feature which allows you to find your bullet. This is achieved by sending your ballistics to Leupold where they custom engrave the dial which then allows you to have the exact drop at any distance when you range find the target giving you the perfect shot every time. The optics on this scope are low light and can be used in the harshest conditions. This flagship models rugged, but lightweight build makes it an all-rounder scope.

The VX-3HD is one of Leupold most popular scopes for deer stalking (the Viking Arms team favourite!) also has an illuminated reticle at a 50 millimetre objective, the Twilight Hunter reticle which also allows you to place precise shots. On this scope there is a built-in throw lever to aid in quick magnification change, with a 4.5 power at the lowest end up to 14 power at its highest that can be used in a variety of hunting situations. The zero lock turret allows you to dial your shot, return to zero, and not worry about movement of the dial in the field.

Specific for an airgun rifle is the VX Freedom Scope with a 3-9 x 33 extended focal range which will dial down to 9 metres of close focus distance. All Leupold scopes are trialled and tested to ensure they withstand air guns so there is no need to worry about braking from the recoil. The scopes Rimfire MOA reticle is fantastic for holdovers and is absolutely perfect for airgun rifles.
