Ruger Ranch Roebuck Hunt with Chris Dalton

Ruger Ranch Roebuck Hunt with Chris Dalton

The Viking team spent a week in Scotland with UK Professional Stalker of the year and all-around gentleman, Chris Dalton hunting roebuck at South Ayrshire Stalking.

Chris Dalton has been in the business of deer management for 30 years and promotes ethical and sustainable deer management. Through South Ayrshire Stalking Chris has been able to train and guide shooters, especially beginners, in sustainable deer stalking. In this film Viking Arms' Andy Norris joins him for a great week of hunting and stalking exploits.

Throughout the week several firearms were put to the test in the Scottish landscape, and there was one that stood out. We are talking about the Ruger American Rifle Ranch 223 16" threaded AR magazine 10 shot. This sub one-thousand-pound firearm was paired with a Leupold VX3-HD riflescope and S&B 223 SP ammunition – a brilliant combination for this Ruger centrefire rifle.

To get the shot you want it is vital to have the proper kit together at your fingertips. The Ruger Ranch rifle in .223 featured with a factory 10 shot mag can also accept an alternative magazine that offers an increase in magazine capacity with AR-Style magazines. With a 16 inch barrel and weighing only 6.1 pounds, the lightweight and ergonomic rifle is designed for quick and easy handling. An adjustable trigger with an alterable pull weight of 3-5 pounds offers a quick and crisp release. The one piece, three lug, full diameter bolt has a 70 deg throw to allow for generous scope clearance and a smooth rotation from off the shoulder. As a first-time shooter of the .223 Ruger Rifle, Andy demonstrated the importance of these features with a successful roebuck hunt. The minute-of-angle accuracy and Power Bedding block system that free-floats the barrel advanced his precision and provided Andy with an excellent shot of a beautiful roebuck in the Scottish lowlands .

Ruger’s Rifle in .223 paired superbly with the VX-3HD riflescope as this lightweight scope suits the lightweight theme of this rifle. Including a one-revolution CDS, ZeroLock dial, HD clarity and customisable ballistics you are sure to be on target However, you’ll have even more luck when combining the Ruger American Rifle Ranch 223, also available in 7.62 X39 and 300 Blackout, and VX-3HD riflescope with S&B 223 SP ammunition. The Soft Point bullet has a lead core and engineered jacket that hits Deer sized targets at 500 yards quite easily and with a good rest. It is an excellent choice for a short-range target with light recoil.

With the 223 Ruger American Rifle Ranch’s long list of features, this rifle is a well-priced pocket rocket that boasts high performance, adaptability, user friendliness, and accuracy. After a week in Scotland roebuck stalking, it is safe to say that Andy now has a newfound love for sub-one-thousand-pound firearms.
